The Highveld Smockers Guild

OBJECTIVE: To encourage innovation in the use of African fabrics, African traditions, colours, fauna, flora and landscapes and to promote perfection in smocking.

DATE: 22 April 2006 - Johannesburg

SECTIONS:

• SCHOLAR
• NOVICE
  for beginners and hobby smockers
• INTERMEDIATE
  for experienced and/or confident smockers
• ADVANCED
  for those who have received a first, second or third prize in a national smocking competition;
  those who are smocking teachers;
  and those operate a business in smocked items.

CATEGORIES:

• A. GARMENTS - including garments for babies, boys, girls and adults
• B. MISCELLANEOUS - including gifts, home wares, toys & fashion accessories etc.

PRIZES IN EACH SECTION:

• FIRST PRIZE, SECOND and THIRD PRIZES will be awarded to the items that receive highest points overall for smocking, construction and theme interpretation.
• Additional SPECIAL PRIZES may be awarded at the judges discretion.

The prizes include smocking pleaters, embroidery threads, books, patterns, smocking and other magazine subscriptions, haberdashery and gift vouchers from various shops and companies.

CERTIFICATES will be awarded to all entries.

The JUDGES' DECISION IS FINAL, and no discussion or correspondence will be entered into.

The Madeline Bird Floating Trophy will be awarded to the item that receives the most votes in the Viewers' Choice. It will be for the item that has "the most appeal" for the general viewer of the exhibition.

Entry to this competition is open to ALL smockers, whether or not you are a member of a Guild. You may enter more than one item. The entry fees are as follows:
